Very happy with what Hexy did yesterday. He subtly improved the bottom 6, and the PK and, perhaps most importantly, he eliminated the need for the teams best offensive center to have to take so many D zone faceoffs.

And he also took the necessary steps to upgrade the Phantoms so that our prospects can develop in a winning atmosphere.

Finally, he resisted the stupidity to overpay for aging, declining talent. This is how you patiently build a winning team.

While not signings of the "this'll get us over the hump" variety, Weise and Gordon solidify the bottom 6. I like that Hextall is looking to ease some of the d-zone burden that Giroux has been carrying.

Its actually a nice change of pace to not be involved in throwing money at the big names. A GM actually having a plan and sticking to it is not something we're all that used to

Hard to say, Laughton could earn a top 6 spot in camp and/or Konecny could earn a spot as well. Pointless to speculate line combos in July, it will sort itself out during preseason

Yeah, it'll be nice that NAK and the other young guys will have somebody like Miele to feed them the puck, and Will O to hit them in transition.

Yeah, supplemental signings. Like Hexy was ever gonna really go out and blow 6-years, $5M+ on some top-six UFA to placate the more impatient elements in the fan base.

I certainly enjoyed these signings and our lack of exciting signings. A lot of the teams in the East improved or upgraded but down the road in 3-5 years some of these teams could have some trouble with contracts. I got to listen to Weise phone interview and I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings to our team and who he plays with even. He was thrilled over how our interest in him.

I mean how can you not like the guy already?

I say this with 100% sincerity....knowing where we are in the process, what do you folks think about the Okposo signing? I honestly think $6 mil a year is a perfect price for him. I don't hear much criticism of him. If he can pot ~30 playing with either Eichel or O'Reilly and first unit power play, that's a reasonable addition. Term doesn't bother me. We finally have an owner with unlimited money,

I think we are finally ready to make our move.

First unit PP ..COULD be....

Oreilly, Eichel, Reinhart, Okposo, and Ristolenin.

That aint shabby

What has Laughton done or shown that he could earn a spot in the top 6?

I liked the signing for you guys. And to get him under the reported "Bobby Ryan money" especially after he became arguably best FA after Stamos signed was great too. He's played with a very talented Tavares for the past couple seasons so there's no doubt he can hop in Buffalo's line up. I was saying yesterday after it was announced he signed, a line of Kane-Eichel / O-Reilly-Okposo could be interesting.

Not much as of yet, but there have been flashes. I'm not ready to write off a 22 year old kid.

I was not surprised to see White only get 1 year at $1m. His value as a free agent just wasn't that high.

Remember how excited you were when Matt Moulson signed with the Sabres after some 30 goal seasons on the Islanders?

I am not writing him off either. Just may be asking to much for him in the top 6. Seems better off on the wing

Was one of the better signings imo. I also thought Boedker at 4 x 4 was a nice signing by Sharks.

Going rate for a consistent 25 goal scorer. Young enough to still be productive when the team is a serious contender

I just want to know what the Isles did. They're a good team and the only teams he's ever known. They have a relatively bright future. Then they sign an older, starting to break down Ladd to a 7 year, 5.5 mil contract when they could have paid 500k more to keep their homegrown guy. Absolutely feels like something behind the scenes. If he signed for 7x7 or something sure. But his contract really seemed....fair?

Yeah i was asking myself the same thing; it doesn't make sense. Snow said they couldn't afford Okposo looking down the road, yet he pays 500,000 less for Ladd. Just odd. A move that is more likely to hurt your team down the road compared to Okposo.

He's better than Lucic and Ladd so...they've (Sabres) made worse signings

@Mono

Jack Capuano is not a great coach maybe Okposo just didn't like him?
